HIKE UPDATE - 2022

We have now completed our first two summer backpacks of 2022!
(See below for some amazing photos from those trips.)
We started with a late July trip beginning at McKenzie Pass. By month end we were crossing the Bridge of the God’s. For anyone who saw the movie, "Wild," starring Reece Witherspoon, this is where she ended her PCT hike. The Bridge of the God’s is a old suspension bridge over the Columbia River that link OR to WA. For us it was a huge milestone having now done virtually all of CA and all of OR. We are beginning to believe that we will finish the entire PCT.
Not content to stop at the WA border we hike north to White Pass. This section includes the scenic section known as Goat Rocks. Once you’ve hiked it, you know how it got its name. The trail is fine, but if you are afraid of heights, you will gasp as you walk along a part know as the knife’s edge.
Over our 15 days of hiking, we were able to end at White Pass, WA. We are now so far north that we can no longer make the trip home in a day. Rather we need two travel days to return home.
In September we return to the only remaining section in CA, Sonora Pass to Tuolumne Meadows. This section had been left over from 2021 due to the fire closures the previous year. Of course anytime you can travel to Yosemite National Park you know the area will be beautiful. In 2016 when we started this adventure we passed through Tuolumne Meadows on the way to Yosemite Valley as we completed the John Muir Trail. This trip was the geniuses of our PCT section hiking dream. Like the JMT there is only one way to complete this section, full packs and multiple days. We took 6 hiking days to complete the 75 miles.
This brought our 2022 total miles to 387.
