HIKE UPDATE - 2021

We have now completed our first two summer backpacks of 2021!
(See below for some amazing photos from those trips.)
Late June to mid-July, we were filling some gaps in Northern CA Hiking from Etna Summit to the OR border. We also had a small gap near Lake Tahoe from Barker Pass to Donner Pass. (Yes, that Donner Pass). We encountered an extreme heat wave which caused us to adjust our plans. We got up early, (as early as Midnight) hiked during the coolness of the morning and rested during the hot afternoons. As a result we were able to complete 251 miles on the PCT.
Later July to early August we pushed north into Oregon. This trip was not as hot as our previous trip. We found OR to be some of the nicest hiking thus far. The elevation was gentle and except for a few burn areas, very scenic. We covered the section between Klamath Fall and McKenzie Pass. McKenzie pass is a very rough volcanic area but beautiful in its own special way. In two weeks, we were able to add another 210 miles to our hiking total.
While we hoped to add a section from Sonora Pass to Tuolumne Meadows, the summer fires closed the forests. We had to settle for a total of 460 miles in 2021.
